Medicine for Melancholy (2008)
Watched this today. It was pretty good—I admit that a good part of it I couldn’t really personally relate to, but I never felt left out or anything; it’ll mean something different entirely for people who are: 1) African American and/or 2) from San Francisco. It’s almost an ode to the city, embracing it while still pointing out its problems. Actually, this movie sort of reminded me of Before Sunset—sort of the same basic premise (two near-strangers spend the day walking around a city together), but without that optimism that Before Sunrise had. Both of the characters are genuinely interesting, and while the ending isn’t particularly happy, it’s still right.
